GRRC Annual Scholarship Program
2007 Scholarship Winners
In January of 2000, the GRRC launched an annual scholarship program for area high school seniors who had relocated between 9th and 12th grades. The GRRC awarded the first scholarships in April of 2000. 2006 Greater Richmond Relocation Council Scholarship Award Program For the seventh year, the Greater Richmond Relocation Council (GRRC) has awarded $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors who had relocated into the Richmond area between grades 9 and 12. GRRC sent scholarship applications to all Richmond Virginia area public high schools. The Scholarship Committee selected the three scholarship winners based on the strength of their total package. The applicants were evaluated on academic performance, standard test scores, extra-curricular activities, and an essay addressing the way they handled the challenges associated with relocating to a new area and a new high school. The 2007 winners were Lorel Winter, Leonid Reshko and Shakeela Faqir Mohammad All three winners attended the spring GRRC meeting in April. Each student read his or her essay to the meeting attendees and answered questions from the audience. Their winning essays were well written and full of interesting perspectives on relocation. They also offered great advice to other teenagers who are going through relocation. The essays are reprinted in this issue of Mobility.
